Fears are mounting that additional Iranian athletes may face execution, as mountaineer Ali-Sina Mostafavi becomes the latest individual put to death by the authorities.

An activist group reports that two sports figures have been executed within the past month, with at least six others confronting a similar outcome.

He had been detained in April following anti-government demonstrations that took place months earlier. His death follows the execution of taekwondo athlete Siavash Jamshidi Kheirabadi in early October, and the hanging of mixed martial arts fighter Gholamreza Khani Shakarab in May.
